About the Library

Welcome to General Library of Government Arts College, Ariyalur. General Library, which is one of the major central support services of  GAC, Ariyalur. The General Library is housed in a separate two-storied building with a carpet area of 4000 Sq.ft. It strives to connect outstanding faculty and brilliant students to the knowledge and state of art of their disciplines. As the face is the index of a person, so is the library for an institution.

To provide access to global knowledge, the General library has a collection of over 52,000 volumes of Indian and foreign books in their latest edition and subscribe to more than 3828 UGC- N-LIST Journals and e-books. The library also holds rich collections in Tamil and the books of general interest. Library houses separate section of books on competitive exam, which helps the students to prepare for  UPSC, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, Banking, Railways and much more.  It also stacked a few collections of rare books. 

The Library has been computerized with Lips iNet Software (Library Information Processing System) for regular transactions of library activities. The systems are connected in LAN to access the OPAC within the library. Each year, on an average 600 volumes, are added to the collection.

Apart from the General Library, each department has a separate library in their respective departments to access books and other materials for their informational need. 

All students, faculty members and employees of the GAC, Ariyalur are entitled to make use of the Library facilities on taking library membership.  The Library follows a partial open access system.
